Lotsa heat, humidity and progress.

August 5-16, 2010

So much has happened over the last couple of weeks it would be hard to cover it all. Doug was able to spend 12 days working on the cabin. This, of course, was great for progress, but challenging physically and mentally, as he was alone for several days of that time. Sandy had to return home to work for a few days, so Doug was left alone with a dead phone, bottom-of-the-pantry food, no AC (during 90+ degree heat and 90+% humidity) and no car! However challenging, the hard work of the last two weeks have resulted in wonderful progress.

This final progress photo of the road-side view shows the front door, which we added last time, but didn't get a good picture of, the front stoop, a roof window which overlooks the foyer, and a roof complete with roof vents!

But the biggest aesthetic change came from "The Day of the Dirt". After two full days of dump trucks hauling and dumping sand, clay and top soil, we have a yard! Ivan the Excavator and his crew did a fantastic job filling in all of the crazy gaps and leveling out all of the crazy hills we had. Somehow, they can look at a mess of a yard, listen to our desires and make it all work out. It takes great vision to do that. Here are some pictures of that fateful day!

490 yards of soil were hauled in and tamped down with the Whacker.
Ivan and Doug discuss the details of this enormous project
