The List Just Keeps Getting Smaller!

November 12-14, 2010

What a privilege it is to have a whole weekend with Chris! He is such a huge help and so fun to be with. He rode up with us on Friday afternoon and worked hard until Sunday evening. Doug had made a very extensive list for us to work from and we made a BIG dent in it.

We found that Rod, the siding contractor we hired to finish siding, fascia and soffit and install the chimney chase and side it, had done most of that very well. However, he did not side the chimney chase or put the chase cover in place. After further discussion with Rod, it was agreed that we would begin siding closest to the roof and go up as high as possible and then he and his crew would finish it off. So, Chris and Doug worked on that the first part of Saturday. It was no easy task.

We wired for flood lights on the front corners of the porch to illuminate the yard, the lake, and the driveway.
Chris hung some 1 by's so that we can install the beadboard ceiling once it's painted.

Sandy's pulling wire and tacking it to the trusses.
Chris installed the porch door knob.
Soldering a few pieces of copper plumbing tubing.

We finished the fresh water plumbing. This is the half bathroom on the upper level sink water plumbing.
We then moved on to installing backers and adjusting door and closet door rough openings. We went through quite a stack of lumber doing that. It sure helped clean out the main floor pile!

Framing and adding backers around the skylight.
We love the view and the light that comes in!
Master bedroom closet openings.
We built the wall to the closet in the second bedroom upstairs. Crazy angles!

Here are some exterior shots, now that it's almost completely done.

The water is still clear and beautiful!

While we were watching the very slight, occasional snow flake falling, the Twin Cities was having a huge snow storm! Chris kept getting text pictures from Kelly showing the snow drifts and heavy trees. It was so strange to know that was going on at home, but nothing substantial was collecting at the cabin. This picture shows the extent of the snowfall we had. Pretty funny.
