Last Weekend...Again...For Sure This Time.................Hopefully.

January 14, 2011

Well, having been told that a cabin MUST have trim around the windows and doors (go figure!), we set out yet again for our last work weekend at the cabin. It seems somewhat optimistic, but we are believing that we can install all of the trim by Monday, have the appraiser do his evaluation on Monday afternoon, and close next Thursday or Friday. Monday, January 17th, is Martin Luther King Day, which means that Wells Fargo is closed and Doug is not supposed to work. So, we're free to stay and work for three days. We also have hired, that's right, we have HIRED a man from Brandon to assist us as well as our friend, Jim Holm. Chris has also offered to work on Monday, if we haven't gotten it all done.

We are really excited about the trim we found though. Siwek Lumber & Millwork in NE Minneapolis is a quirky place we discovered by responding to a craigslist posting. We've gotten a variety of random things there, including a most amazing bargain on cedar for our porch decking. It's kind of like a huge, unorganized garage sale with bins of cool stuff spilling out into the aisles, the wonderful smell of wood in the air and a deal to be found around the next corner. Anyway, we got the tail end of a run of the most beautiful rustic oak trim with rounded corners from them. We bought 2 1/4" trim for the sides of the windows and 4 1/4" for the tops and bottoms of windows/doors and baseboard.

I guess there is some excitement left in us! It will be even more exciting when we get it installed! Onward, march!
