Perfect Fall Weekend!

September 18-19, 2010

The weather this weekend is what makes Minnesota a spectacular place to live! It was dry (Yay!) and sunny with a crispness in the air.
The lake had a beautiful glow about it, although it offered much less of an allure to jump in!
Surprises have washed up on shore.
The leaves are just beginning to change color.
And the fields are flowing with rich brown tones.
The high did reach the upper 60's, but much of the day was much cooler. We're thankful for the great working weather. It also made the inside temperature hover at around 65 degrees, which was perfect.

Speaking of temperature, we bought our furnace (thank you, Dave Manley!) and hauled it up this weekend along with tons of ducting that has been stored in our basement. Very exciting!
It's a Goodman 90,000 BTU, 95% efficient furnace.
And this new beauty is supposed to fit in here...not sure how, but we'll work it out. We're thinking the adjustment has to be made by swapping out the huge water heater on the right. He's chubby!
In Nature 101 this week, we enjoy two beautiful, non-biting creatures (my favorite kind). Below you'll see this gorgeous cyclopse dragon fly who didn't budge, in spite of our nailing siding in all around him. He was amazing!
Then just a few feet over, perched quietly on the window ledge, was an adorable little green tree frog. With the window ledge being no more than 1 1/2 " wide, he must be under 1" himself. Isn't he cute! Love that green!

Here's another fascinating deal...this log was one of the huge trees we cut down when clearing the land in January. Now, nine months later, we see new growth coming from the log. There must be so much life left in this tree that it continues to grow. How cool is that?

And here is our lush, sweet new grass
popping up everywhere!

And it's on to siding yet again! The front/road-side will have green siding on top and the sable brown shakes on the bottom to line up with the west/walk-out side.
And what is this? Why, it is the remains of an 11- ton boulder pile! That's right, 11 tons of rocks have been distributed around the property. No wonder our backs hurt!
An all-day fire burned up most of the construction debris. The cool breeze blowing off the lake helped to keep the fire burning angry for many hours!

This little buddy is to connect the gas to the house. Doug do'd it!

He also installed the fresh air vent so we could run it out the front of the cabin under the soffit before we install that.  He thinks I took this picture just cuz it's a cute butt shot. Perhaps...

So, here's how we left things from the weekend...
Feeling good, heading home-sweet-home on a Sunday night! Thank you, Lord for a great weekend!
